Amendments to the Manuals

BOS 53/08

Official Notice BOS 53/08 provides notice of amendments to the Registered and Accredited Individual Non-government Schools (NSW) Manual and the Registration Systems and Member Non-government Schools (NSW) Manual. The amendment adds the definition of ‘campus’ to the glossary section of each manual.

The amendment takes effect with the publication of the Official Notice (53/08).

Amendments to the manuals - Education Regulation 2007

BOS 14/08 (Vol 17 No 1)

Official Notice BOS 14/08 provides notice of amendments to the Registered and Accredited Individual Non-government Schools (NSW) Manual and the Registration Systems and Member Non-government Schools (NSW) Manual with regard to the Education Regulation 2007.

The Regulation provides for the registration of a school to cease if the school closes or the registration to be limited if the school ceases to operate. A non-government school is required to notify the Board of Studies if it closes or ceases to operate.

The Official Notice specifies the sections of the manuals that have been amended.

The amendments take effect with the publication of the notice (BOS 14/08).

Amendments to the manuals - good character of 'responsible persons'

BOS 56/07 (Vol 16 No 4)

Official Notice BOS 56/07 provides notice of amendments to the registration manuals with regard to the requirement for ‘responsible persons’ of non-government schools to be of good character.

This requirement, as amended, is presented in section 3.9 of the Registered and Accredited Individual Non-government Schools (NSW) Manual and section 5.9 of the Registration Systems and Member Non-government Schools (NSW) Manual.

The amendments take effect with the publication of the notice (BOS 56/07).

Amendments to the manuals – Disability Discrimination Act 1992

BOS 42/07 (Vol 16 No 3)

Official Notice BOS 42/07 provides notice of amendments to the registration manuals with regard to the Commonwealth’s Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and the Disability Standards for Education 2005. These amendments relate to the premises and buildings of non-government schools, including boarding facilities, and to the requirement for notifying the Board of Studies in certain circumstances.

The amendments are presented in sections 3.4, 3.9.3 and 3.11.2 of the Registered and Accredited Individual Non-government Schools (NSW) Manual and sections 5.4, 5.9.3 and 5.11.2 of the Registration Systems and Member Non-government Schools (NSW) Manual.

The amendments take effect with the publication of the notice (BOS 42/07).

Official Notice BOS 42/06 provides notice of amendments to the registration manuals with regard to additional and revised requirements for annual reporting.

The amendments are presented in section 3.10.1 of the Registered and Accredited Individual Non-government Schools (NSW) Manual and section 5.10.1 of the Registration Systems and Member Non-government Schools (NSW) Manual.

Amendments to the manuals – outsourced courses

BOS 44/05 (Vol 16 No 3)

Official Notice BOS 44/05 provides notice of amendments to the registration manuals with regard to outsourced courses. The amendments provide for the Board to approve, in exceptional circumstances, the outsourcing of more than a minority of courses from a student’s pattern of study.

The amendments are presented in section 3.2.3 of the Registered and Accredited Individual Non-government Schools (NSW) Manual and section 5.2.3 of the Registration Systems and Member Non-government Schools (NSW) Manual.

Registration Applications - Reminder

Individual non-government schools and registration systems are invited to apply for:

  • renewal of registration
  • initial registration of new Years of schooling to commence in 2010
  • initial registration of new schools seeking to commence in 2010.

Applications are due by 31 March 2009 and are required to be submitted through RANGS Online. (See Official Notice - Registration applications - a reminder)

Annual reports for the 2008 school year due 30 June 2009

BOS 07/09

All non-government schools must produce and disclose publicly a 2008 annual report by 30 June 2009.

The annual reporting requirements are detailed in section 3.10.1 of the Registered and Accredited Individual Non-government Schools (NSW) Manual and section 5.10.1 of the Registration Systems and Member Non-government Schools (NSW) Manual.

A copy of the report must be submitted through RANGS Online by 30 June 2009. (see Official Notice - 2008 Annual Reports from Non-government Schools)

General advice about annual reports

General information about annual reports was sent to all individual schools and registration systems in January 2008.

The information provided details of the process for submitting an annual report for the 2007 school year.

Attached to the information was further advice to explain some of the requirements that were new in 2007. Schools may find this advice helpful in preparing a report for the 2007 school year.
