Requirements for the provisional accreditation of a new school
It may not be possible for a proposed new school to provide evidence of compliance with all sections of the Education Act 1990 relating to the School Certificate and/or Higher School Certificate before beginning to operate. It is expected, however, that the applicant will provide evidence of policies and procedures that will ensure compliance of the school with the requirements of the Act should the application be successful. If the application for provisional accreditation is successful, the school is required to meet all requirements on commencement and must, throughout its period of provisional accreditation, maintain evidence of compliance with those requirements.
To be considered for provisional accreditation, proposed new schools or established registered schools must demonstrate evidence of the capacity to comply with the requirements for accreditation.
Any differences between the description of provisional accreditation requirements and those for established schools is only intended to take account of the fact that compliance with some requirements can only be demonstrated once the school begins to operate as an accredited school. In the event that a difference occurs for any other reason the requirements for established schools take precedence.
New accredited non-government schools must meet the requirements of the Act upon commencement of operation.
