Conducting a school that is not accredited

It is an offence under Section 93 of the Education Act 1990 to conduct or knowingly permit or assist in the conduct of a school for the education of candidates for the School Certificate or the Higher School Certificate if the school is not accredited.

The Act requires secondary schools not accredited to enter candidates for the award of the School Certificate to notify parents of students in writing each year that students who complete their Year 10 course at that school will not be eligible for a School Certificate.

Penalties apply to persons who conduct schools for the education of students who are candidates for one of the above certificates where the school is not accredited.
